FILM OF THE MONTH
DEAR EASINGTON HUNK - BY DEAN WILSON
Film by Dave Lee
Dean: This was one of those poems that I never thought would make a film. Couldn't see it. Then Dave said 'It's simple. Just you walking to a letterbox'. I still didn't get it but did as I was told and then when I saw the edit, it made perfect sense.
Dave: I knew it'd work and I knew I needed somewhere quiet with a view of a letterbox and a long walk toward it. We'd been filming somewhere - Saltburn, I think - and we kept our eyes open while driving back to Hull through the Moors. We spotted a letterbox in a tiny village somewhere and shot a version of it, but it wasn't great. Then I was taking Dean to one of my favourite pubs for lunch - Birch Hall Tavern at Beck Hole, it's the white building in the background of the film - and, as we parked up, I spotted the letterbox. Shot it in one take and went for a corned beef sarnie and Beckwatter in the pub.
Dean: The pub is amazing. Just outside Goathland down a really steep bit of road. It's actually two pubs with a sweet shop in the middle and a massive escarpment in the beer garden. Very odd but totally ace. Can't wait to go back.
